Rosemary Wagstaff Words of Art Artist

FLORAL & GARDEN CARDS

In the beginning Words of Art only sold floral cards created from original paintings by flower artist Rosemary Wagstaff.

Rosemary started painting personalised name pictures some 18 years ago finding inspiration in her garden and the hedgerows near her home in the Forest of Dean.  She had always had artistic flair but it was after the death of her husband Michael in 1991 that she started seriously studying floral water colour painting.

img-0276.jpgEach of Rosemary's original personalised name paintings required hours of research and planning before she could even put brush to paper and in the early days Rosemary only gave her pictures to family and close friends. However, soon her reputation grew and in no time she was receiving commissions from people who had seen her work in friends houses. The effect of this success meant that Rosemary's passion soon became a lot less enjoyable as the backlog of commissions grew.

Caroline Wagstaff and her mother RosemaryRosemary's daughter Caroline encouraged her to paint an alphabet in flowers that could be used over the over again to create name prints to for people to order and it is these letters that are used in our Single Letter and Everyday Floral ranges.  Rosemary painted each letter with a flower that began with the corresponding letter (e.g. Poppy in a P, Orchid in an O and so on).  and ended up creating around one hundred images altogether.  This mamouth task took over two years to complete and included insects, butterflies and small animals to inhabit the world between the letters.

In 2009 Words of Art started selling their first floral cards at country and agricultural fayres, NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies) and later the Royal Windsor Farm Shop in January 2010.  In late 2010 the Garden Wisdom range was lauched.

However Caroline realised that she needed to broaden her card ranges to include some more generic non-garden related cards.  This is how the 'Make in Royal Windsor' range of cards came into being.  Caroline used her inherited artistic skill and went about creating a range of cards inspired by her royal location.

MADE IN ROYAL WINDSOR RANGE

The majority of the 'Made in Royal Windsor' cards capture the spectacle of the world's most famous jewels and tiaras including most recently our new cards depicting Her Royal Highness, Catherine The Duchess of Cambridge's wedding jewellery.  Each card is a miniature work of art in its own right as they are all individually hand embellish with complimentary glitters accentuating the precious stones and metals used to create these priceless pieces.

These cards are enjoying considerable success and being sold in Windsor Castle, Sandringham Estate and Buckingham Palace.  Caroline has also undertaken commissions for logos and coats of arms.

In addition, the range also includes cards depicting shoes, cup cakes, soldiers, union jacks and even and iPhone!
